HC & Annie

Henry Clinton "HC" Babb1 was born March 18, 1889, in Henry County, Georgia to Perry L. and Finton King (Belcher) Babb2. He died January 8, 1968, in Atlanta3 probably as a result of emboli after a hip fracture. He is buried in RestHaven Memorial Gardens in Decatur4.

HC married Nannie Chambers in Spalding County, Georgia, September 11, 19095. She was born around 1892. My understanding is that Nannie died after the 1920 Census, but I can't document that yet.

HC married Annie Cornelia Morris in Spalding County, Georgia, August 26, 19226. She was born October 24, 1895, in Spalding County to William Jasper and Emily (Willeby) Morris7. She died May 26, 1985, in Atlanta3 probably from a stroke. She is buried in RestHaven Memorial Gardens in Decatur.

Annie had previously been married to Charlie Tanksley in Spalding County, Georgia, August 10, 19128. Tanksley is said to have left the marriage for Chattanooga after the 1920 Census.

Known children of HC and Annie were:

  • Elsie Gaynelle Babb9 b. 1/25/1914 d. 3/26/1932 Spalding County10
  • Florence Tanksley11 b. 4/22/19143 mar. Merrell Mays ??/??/???? d. 9/22/19873
  • Mitchell Alfred Babb11 b. 9/24/19231 mar. - ;   mar. Catherine Adelaide Morgan, 7/7/1943, Brownwood, TX;   mar. Bernice Louise Johnson, 9/5/1951;   d. 7/28/1993, Clay County, MS3
  • "Living" Babb b. 1/21/1926 mar. Robert Lenorah Milford 10/31/1944

I am told that Florence and Gaynelle used to get strep throats together. At about 12 years, Florence had her tonsils removed, but Gaynelle's maternal family raised objections to the surgery and Gaynelle subsequently developed rheumatic heart disease. At some level one knows that penicillin wasn't used until World War II, but something like this brings it home.
